Baseball Prospectus | Articles | Team Health Reports: Boston Red Sox

Red Sox team health report, courtesy of Will Carroll and BaseballProspectus.com. I was surprised that he gave red flags to 'Tek and Johnny while giving Wells a green light. Wells has been consistent, making 30+ starts practically every year. Still, he turns 42 in May, and he isn't exactly the Fitness Magazine poster boy, is he?

Overall the assessment is pretty favorable - there is some risk given the age of the team, but the Sox seem to have done a good job of covering their bases with the backups on the roster. This is yet another article which opines favorably on the way the Boston front office works. In Theo we trust!

More minor league ball stuff. Hanley Ramirez gets the top slot, and I think all of the top six are likely to play in portland this year, along with maybe Delcarmen and West (#13 and #14, respectively). If the Sox do indeed have a good minor league system, we'll see the proof in Portland this year with a team that really contends for the league title.

(OK, upon further review, it looks like Sanchez and Delcarmen will start the year in Wilmington, according to the Red Sox Prospects web site. Still, look for a midseason callup to Hadlock.)

Dustin Pedroia promises to be a crowd favorite - a scrappy little guy who looks like he'll be a hitter (sort of a David Eckstein with pop). He's moving to second base to form a showcase keystone combination with Hanley this summer. Should be fun.

Minor League Ball :: Prospect in Retrospect: Bronson Arroyo

Minor League Ball :: Prospect in Retrospect: Bronson Arroyo

Here's a nice profile of Bronson Arroyo. I'm pretty high on him based on his success last season, but Sickels apparently has never been real high on him. I hear a lot of talk on the radio that Arroyo is a better fit for the bullpen than the starting rotation, but I'm not so sure. He showed promise last year, with a decent WHIP and K/BB ratio. I think he'll continue to make progress and be good for 15 W's this season if he stays in the rotation for the full season.
